BACKGROUND

Off the 06 fire road in Truckee, CA a community trail network was reborn after being heavily logged and cleared by a large scale forestry initiative. Truckee Dirt Union assisted with route mapping for a new jump trail, re-routing Happy Face Trail in addition to bridging communication between social trail builders, the Truckee Dirt Riders, and USFS seeking to create a shared vision for the rebirth of a beloved neighborhood trail network.

TDU met forest service officials in the forest over two consecutive days rallying core members of Truckee’s MTB community to provide insight, and art-direction for the creation of a new MTB specific progression line off the top of Bald Mountain. TDU studied the zone extensively, and flagged a proposed new route taking vertical descent, flow, terrain, erosion control, and case-specific riding capabilities into account.

Notes: Trail building for this project is being completed by Truckee Trails Foundation in collaboration with USFS. There are additional OHV projects slated for this area to be built in collaboration with Truckee Dirt Riders.
